Company Experience


John Owens made his escape from the practice of law to real estate brokerage nearly 20 years ago and since then has devoted his time to all aspects of the industry incorporating his legal background to better serve his clients.

These aspects have included site selection, due diligence management and evaluation, entitlement work, elements of construction and development, space leasing and ultimately disposition of various assets.

John has performed these various services for a wide range of clients, including users such as Walmart Stores (with all of its varied formats, including Division I Stores, Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets), Sam’s Club, the Larry H. Miller Companies (Auto Dealerships, Pro Stop Convenience Stores, Theaters and other Entertainment Venues), Chase Bank, AutoZone, Uinta Golf and others. John has also represented landowners and developers, institutional as well as entrepreneurial, incident to uses beyond retail including offices, multifamily, automotive uses and others.

John’s twelve years of experience prior to his brokerage career include five years as General Counsel to a regional development firm and seven years of private practice heavily weighted in the real estate industry. During those periods, John was heavily involved in complex financing and development issues in office, commercial and multi-family residential projects. While not in active law practice, John’s background in this arena has provided a depth to his understanding of the various elements of the real estate industry that is rare to find and assists greatly in John’s ability to orchestrate a smooth resolution to challenges in most all real estate transaction.

Owens also possesses special expertise in the area of tax free 1031 exchanges and is experienced in assisting institutional investors, companies, and individuals in identifying and securing appropriate real estate investments.

Owens earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1979 from the University of Utah, where he also was awarded his Juris Doctorate three years later. He is a member of the American Bar Association.
