John enjoys over 20 years of experience in commercial real estate. Prior to joining Commerce in 2006 as an Investment Specialist, he worked as an Investment Advisor with CBRE, for four years, specializing in the purchase and sale of investment real estate. In 2010 John was promoted to Director of Corporate Services, a position created to take advantage of John's unique skills to coordinate Commerce's various service lines in assisting lenders with distressed and "troubled assets."

Prior to his involvement in the real estate investment industry John was the owner of Appraisal Link, Inc. He has 19 years of consulting and valuation experience assisting local and national private and institutional clients and lenders of all types with their real estate endeavors. His background and experience provide a special benefit for owners/investors in maximizing the potential of real estate investments. He has provided professional services to such clients as Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), America Online (AOL), Viacom/CBS Realty, Zions First National Bank, Wadsworth Construction, Fannie Mae, Richmond America, and GMAC Commercial Mortgage among others.

John is active in the Intermountain West commercial real estate market and has a broad knowledge with a variety of property types. His experience benefits clients by maximizing value and achieving real estate objectives. His leadership skills have afforded him an opportunity to serve as President of the Utah Chapter of the Appraisal Institute and he has served on several national boards and committees for the Appraisal Institute including their Leadership Development Committee.

Education has been instrumental in John's success over the years. He received his Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Utah where he majored in Economics with a specialization in Economic History. John continues educational pursuits in his professional career. He has earned the designation of MAI from the Appraisal Institute and is a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM). John is also a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP).
